Marcirley Alves takedown defenses, striking leads him to score upset and move on in tournament

The longtime training partner of the Pitbull brothers, Leandro Higo made his professional MMA debut in January 2006 and has gone on to become a noteworthy name at bantamweight. Entering his PFL debut tonight with a 23-6 record, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt has scored 16 finishes and a 7-3 Bellator record, which include notable wins over the likes of Darrion Caldwell, Ricky Bandejas, and Nikita Mikhailov. Higo most recently fought at the Bellator Champions Series event in March 2024, defeating James Gallagher.

Marcirley Alves was set to be in an alternate bout, but circumstances now lead him to compete in the main event against a name like Higo for a semifinal spot – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The 25-year-old is a former regional bantamweight champion with a 12-4 record, including nine finishes. Alves last fought at the Bellator Champions Series card in Dublin last June, dropping a decision to Sarvarjon Khamidov.
