Boris Atangana runs through competition for yet another finish

Nicknamed “The Modern Gladiator,” Boris Atangana knows how to bring about power and violence in his fights. After a strong 8-0 amateur run, he is 7-0 as a pro so far, having fought past the first round just once so far. Atangana made his PFL debut in July, scoring a first-round finish of Bruno Santos before a first-round finish of Jhony Gregory in September.

Guilherme Soares is an 11-year pro and a former regional middleweight champion. He enters tonight with a 17-7 record, with 10 victories coming via a finish. Soares is on a four-fight win streak, most recently scoring a decision over Robin Roos in September.

Who will be victorious in this light heavyweight showdown?

Round 1

Atangana runs out and lands to the body immediately. We get an early clinch battle, and Soares brings the fight to the fence. Atangana with a knee, landing up the middle before a separation. Atangana on the attack as the fight goes to the center. Right elbow and right hand by Atangana. Atangana forces Soares to the mat. Atangana tries to land but has to avoid a Soares heel hook attempt. Atangana backs out, and Soares is forced up by the ref. Atangana lands to the body. Soares with a knee. Left hand by Atangana. Both men land right hands. Atangana with a big lift on a level change, putting Soares on his back. Nasty ground-and-pound from Atangana. Atangana working around Soares’ legs. Soares tries to get a hold of the leg, and he sweeps Atangana.

Soares can’t get to his feet as Atangana storms right back with the ground-and-pound. Atangana now gets into side control. Solid elbow by Atangana. Soares sprawls. Atangana tries to circle, and he lands to the head some more. More punches by Atangana. Soares on his back again, and Atangana continues to attack. Atangana gets out of an ankle lock attempt, and Soares is forced to stand again. Soares with a kick. Soares misses a head kick, and Atangana lands his punches. Soares with a knee to the body. Atangana with body shots. A clinch now, and Soares pushes Atangana to the fence again. Atangana with a knee. Ref calls for action, and Atangana reverses the position. Knee by Soares.

Round 2

Low kick by Atangana. Atangana with another level change and takedown. Soares tries for a triangle, but he does get Atangana into his guard. Atangana getting around the guard and landing left hands to the head. Left hands by Atangana. Atangana steps over and takes the back in a three-quarters mount. Atangana has wrist control. Soares turns himself and faces Atangana. Atangana moves into mount, however, and he flattens Soares up as he gives up his back. Atangana raining down blows. Soares might be in trouble here. Atangana looking for a short choke. We got a tapout!
